Apple always tries its best to offer a better user experience. And they have seamlessly improved its data backup and sync service. Users just need an Apple ID and they can easily sync their iPhone with iCloud.
But, sometimes iCloud doesn’t seem to work to meet demands of all the users. For example – download iCloud backup to computer or restore iPhone data without reset.
Just have a look at real user’s practical scenario mentioned-below!
Practical Scenarios: A User Looking For Solution To Restore Old iCloud Backup Without Resetting iPhone
Hi! I have an iPhone 8+ and this morning I was using one of my notes when I accidentally deleted it. Luckily, I knew it would be in accidentally deleted so I went there and accidentally deleted it again. (Not my brightest moment – I thought that clicking the garbage icon would give me an option restore it or to delete it permanently) I consulted some of my friends and they said that I could restore my phone. I plugged it into my computer and it showed that the last computer backup I could restore to is from 7/7/17, which is quite some time ago and it was back when I had my iPhone 7. Then, I saw that I had a more recent iCloud backup from 8/8/18, and I thought that I should restore it there. Unfortunately, I cannot tell if there is a way to restore my phone to this backup without completely resetting my phone.
Additionally, some users online have been saying that my notes are not stored in iCloud backups and therefore do not transfer over, but I want to know if this is true or not, given that when I go Settings>Kiley (My iCloud)>iCloud, it says that notes are there. If possible, I really need this note back. I was also wondering if I could restore my phone to the 7/7/17 computer date to retrieve what I had of the note back then, and then reset it to my iCloud backup from 8/8/18 to bring me back to normal?
Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to retrieve this note. I’m desperate.
Thanks, Kiley

Limitations of Restoring iPhone From iCloud Via Apple’s Official Way
There are some limitations that you have to consider while you are restoring your iPhone from iCloud backup. They are as follows:
- You have to face some data loss – the data which was not backed up to iCloud last time. Your device will get restore to that iCloud backup and all data that was created after the last backup will get overwritten and replaced.
- You can’t preview the recoverable files as well as you can’t selectively restore files. For example such as if you want to only restore text messages, then you can’t. Your iPhone will get restored entirely with the selected iCloud backup file. And you can only view the files only after whole restore process gets complete.
- The restore process may take long time – it may take upto 1-2 days. Sometimes the iCloud backup file is too large and it contains lots of data in it and hence it can take longer time to restore from iCloud backup. The restore process may take from few hours to 1-2 days. Besides that, after restoration, if you don’t require the files from the backup, then you have to manually delete them by yourself again in order to free up space on iPhone.
- Additionally, it is possible that your iPhone may get stuck in restore progress.
Hence, it is highly suggested that you must follow Solution 2, if you really want to restore iPhone from iCloud without resetting.
